“If you enjoy reading a story written in the style of a good friend telling you their life story, you will love this book. The author writes just as she might write you a letter summarizing what has happened to her. She works to make sense of the surprising and sometimes very disappointing actions of her adopted and biological family members, which makes you want to quickly read the next page and next chapter to see how it turns out. As a psychologist and student of attachment theory, I applaud and am intrigued by the courageous work to find the cohesive narrative in a complex personal story. Research on adult attachment shows that resolving past relational experiences in a coherent narrative is the key to future relational health.
